Zusammenfassung:eng: Nikola Algarotti, born under the family name of Udina (Krk/Veglia, today in Croatia, 1791 - Vienna, 1838), attended primary school in Krk and theological seminary in Split, and later studied theology in Vienna. He was active as teacher in Krk and in Ljubljana (today in Slovenia), and as professor of Italian language and literature in Salzburg. Finally, he was appointed director of the French national church of St. Anna in Vienna, where he eventually died. During his active lifetime he gathered a collection of c. 6.000 books, c. 3.000 music scores, as well as about 30 music instruments (a small orchestra) and gifted the whole collection to the parish church at his birthplace of Krk. The valuable collection of music scores is today kept at the Croatian Music Institute in Zagreb, Croatia. The main text presents the life and activities of N. Algarotti, according to the documents investigated for the first time in Vienna (Staatsarchiv, Stadtarchiv, Stadtbibliothek, Dioezesanarchiv, Universitaetsarchiv, etc.), Salzburg (Konsistorialarchiv, Landesarchiv Salzburg, Universitaetsarchiv Salzburg etc.), Zagreb (Hrvatski glazbeni zavod), Split (Katedrala, Muzej grada) and Ljubljana. A comparative analysis of music material from this collection with music collections in Krk, Split, Salzburg and Vienna, resulted in the description of Algarotti's cultural environment as presented in the dissertation. The dissertation also contains: 1) a list of 3.256 main entries (shelf numbers) with 4.227 entries, listed separately as manuscripts (1.937 main entries, 2.808 entries in all) and prints (1.319 main entries, 1.409 entries in all); 2) a list of 813 composers and 858 anonymous compositions; 3) a list of music publishers whose editions make part of the collection. All lists are based upon the newly established computerized catalogue. The collection contains valuable autographs and early prints by well-known composers, as well as by 'Kleinmeister'of the time (Joseph and Michael Haydn, W. A. Mozart, Beethoven, Kracher, Bajamonti, etc.).
